On to Cambodia

On Wednesday, November 5 we flew to Siem Reap, Cambodia, connecting through Bangkok. Siem Reap is in north central Cambodia, and is best known for its Angkor temples, the most famous of which is Angkor Wat. Many temples fell into ruin and are being restored. I asked our guide why the fell into ruin...they were built because the king was there...but the king moved, and so did the monks.

Siem Reap was a sleepy little town at the turn of the millennium, but now. Has a large population and many hotels, thanks to the temple visitors.

Our arrival in Siem Reap coincided with the 3-day Water Festival, which in Cambodia includes dragon boat races, loud music, tons of visitors to the towns, and lots of revelry. It was fun witnessing all this, even though our hotel was right in the center of it all, on the river!

There were no activities planned for our arrival day...which was fine, as the next day was enough for two days!
