Saturday was a travel day, with a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai...a little more than an hour's flight. Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand, with a population of just under 1 million. While Bangkok was a very metropolitan area, Chiang Mai is more nature and outdoor-ish. This area was the home of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, which ruled Thailand between the 13th and 18th centuries, and is now the cultural center of northern Thailand.
We were supposed to link up with our travel partners from Louisville (Chuck and Sarah O'Koon) in the Bangkok airport, but they missed their connecting flight from Beijing to Bangkok, and ended up connecting on a flight to Hong Kong to Chiang Mai, arriving here late afternoon. Probably not the way they would have chosen to begin their vacation!
Thus the planned activities for today were pushed to tomorrow, and our major event in Chiang Mai today was dinner to celebrate the O'Koon's victory over the gods of travel snafus.
